William Scharlau, 78, [address deleted], Menomonie, died at his home Friday morning March 14. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday March 17, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Zessin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Goodrich Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was born Dec. 25, 1896, in Dunn County. He married Margaret Cook and together they managed the Dunn Co. Home for the Aged from 1941 until 1949. From 1949 until their retirement in 1962 they owned and operated the Scharlau Nursing Home in Menomonie. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Morris (Helen) Ranney, and Mrs. Margaret Storing, both of Menomonie; Mrs. Orville (Dorothy) Wilsey, Coon Rapids, Minn.; Mary Ann and Marlys Scharlau, both at home; one brother, George, Colfax; one sister, Mrs. Anna Lausted, Colfax; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
